The Simms G4 waders are the toughest, longest lasting wader we have ever fished in. We at Western Rivers Flyfisher only fish with gear that we have total confidence in. We know how important certain pieces of gear are, and when it comes to breathable waders, we accept no substitutes when it comes to quality and durability. Leaky waders can instantly ruin a day of fishing, but with Simms G4 waders, you will not need to worry about leaks for a very long time. They are built to withstand years of abuse, or fishermen who are exceptionally hard on their gear day in and day out.
Walking around in waders full of cold water, especially during cold weather periods, is one way to ensure that you won’t go fishing for a very long time. Not fishing because of leaky waders is an excuse that we at Western Rivers Flyfisher will never accept! By taking the time to come in to the shop, try on some waders, and understand which waders will meet your needs, you can ensure that the waders you buy will last much longer.
There is a very simple way of understanding what separates lower priced breathable waders from higher priced ones: Toughness. The more layers of breathable fabric you stack on each other, the more durable the breathable wader will be. The more money you spend on your breathable waders, the tougher and more durable they will be. If you are one of those anglers who fishes hard each day, every day you are out on the water, or you are an angler simply looking for a wader that you can get your money’s worth out of, the Simms G4 wader is for you.
The one thing that any angler looking for a new pair of waders asks about the G4 series of waders is the price. “Why would anyone pay that much for a pair of waders?” The answer I give is simple: They are worth it. I am an angler that takes care of his gear, but fishes hard when I get out because I want to get the most out of my time on the water. Inevitably, I walk through things, slide down things, and straddle things that an observant angler wouldn’t try and do in a pair of expensive breathable waders. With the Simms G4Z waders, however, I don’t think about what might happen because these waders are built so tough! I have put my waders literally through the ringer ever since I bought them, and they have NEVER disappointed me.
The benefit of the waterproof YKK zipper is undeniable; there is something so satisfying about being able to relieve yourself without having to take off your entire kit to do so. Is it worth the extra money? I leave that up to you to decide. For me, the proof lies in the pudding. I have had two G4Z waders. The first pair lasted me four seasons and roughly 250+ days of using/abusing them, before I sent them back to Simms to have them checked out for pin-hole leaks and other issues.
In short, for the angler looking to get a piece of equipment that will stand years of use/abuse, and wants a company that will stand behind their product, I know that you cannot go wrong with Simms. They are an American company, which makes an amazing American made product. More importantly, they are a company that believes in durability, quality, and backing up their customers. If you are tough on your gear, or just want a quality product that will last, you would be hard-pressed to find anything better than the Simms G4Z waders.
