The supple nature of the material gives featherweight presentations and does not impede the natural movement of a fly in the current. These leaders are a perfect choice for the dry fly and soft hackle fly fisher.
  • Soft, supple material for perfect presentation
  • Hand tied perfection loop in the butt for quick rigging
  • Excellent knot and tensile strength

RIO Suppleflex Leader and Tippet Review: by Steve Schmidt

Since I got serious about fly-fishing I've changed leader and tippet material only a half dozen times, if that. Those years span 3 decades or more. Recently I made a change and one that happened over a course of only a couple of years. After fishing RIO leaders and tippets since they became available and taking a short hiatus from them I've now switched to the new RIO Suppleflex leaders and tippet.

On our last shop trip to the Henry's Fork, Nick Teynor & Skyler Nelson had both mentioned how impressed they'd been with RIO's new leader and tippet material. On that trip Nick happened to have a spare leader of RIO Suppleflex. After fishing hand tied leaders and other long leaders that I felt excelled, and being somewhat satisfied with how those particular products worked, I was incredibly surprised by how well the leader Nick lent me performed. Since we were fishing the Ranch, I modified the 9' leader to meet this technical fisheries challenges. At 14' in length it turned over as well as any leader I've fished. Given how RIO promoted these leaders, I wouldn't have guessed that it would have turned over so well.

Upon first glance you'll notice these leaders appear to be dark green in color, when actually they're two tone; green & clear on the tippet end. If you fish dry flies, which is where I believe Suppleflex really shines, you'll find these leaders to be supple as their name implies, yet there ability to turn over a fly is what I found to be most impressive. RIO's Suppleflex tippet material also performs as well as any tippet material that I've used. I don't fish fluorocarbon, which has it's advantages, but due to it's impact to the environment and our fisheries I've stuck with monofilament leader and tippet material. As I mentioned, if you fish dry flies you'll find this stuff to be pretty impressive. I know I did.
