Cost: $9.95
SKU: 5731
Availability: Out of Stock
We've been fishing the latest RIO Powerflex Plus all year. Whether it's our local Utah streams, or our favorite spring creeks. This tippet is pretty amazing.

RIO’S Powerflex Plus Tippet. RIO’s newest tippet is the strongest nylon tippet material ever made, with tensile strengths up to 20% more than regular tippet. A highly technical formulation of the nylon copolymer manufacturing process has resulted in this prodigious strength increase, without compromising knot strength or suppleness. Simply put, this is the strongest, most reliable tippet ever made. Each spool has the added bonus of 50 yards of tippet.
  • Incredible strength to diameter ratio
  • Soft material for high knot strength

Rio Powerflex Plus Review
By: Steve Schmidt

Fly-fishing leader and tippet material hasn't seen much of a change since Fluorocarbon was introduced several decades ago, especially regarding leader and tippet material made from nylon.  Since Fluorocarbon was introduces to fly- fishing, it's been all the rage, yet it does leave a rather significant environmental footprint. When left streamside it creates a hazard for wildlife, birds and waterfowl that will last long after all of us have left this earth. So, I'm very excited about the New nylon RIO Power Flex Plus since it's stronger than fluorocarbon and all other nylon leader and tippets and because it has much less of an environmental footprint.

I've had a chance to fish the NEW Power Flex Plus now for almost a year. Since most of my fishing is on spring creeks, which often times involves relatively small flies, long leaders and fine tippets for decent sized fish that put your terminal tackle to the extreme test, I've found RIO's new nylon material to be a game changer. Almost across the board Power Flex Plus is a pound or 20% stronger than Power Flex and all other leading tippet and leader material. The guys in the shop who have been testing it when fishing nymphs also find it to be more abrasion resistant. Maybe not on par with the leading Fluoro, but close and a significant improvement over other nylon leader and tippet material.

At the beginning of each year I buy new nylon 5,6 & 7X tippet material. I don't discard my old material, instead I use it for back up or I always seem to run into someone who is in need. In the past I've used RIO Power Flex since it was introduced. Now, given the advantages of Power Flex Plus, I and my staff have made the change. I've already found on rivers like the Henry's Fork that it's a superior product, but now that winter midge fishing is upon us here in Utah, it's proving itself again to be a far stronger material when fishing very small midge pattern using 7X tippets in order to have success when being confronted with the challenges of winter fly-fishing.
